IP-FungiBank is a multi-locus DNA database of pathogenic fungi of medical interest.
Institut Pasteur-FungiBank is the online database of the French National Reference Center for Invasive Mycoses and Antifungals (NRCMA). The NRCMA has broad missions defined by the Institut de Veille Sanitaire (InVS, French Center for Diseases Control):
(1) expertise on all pathogenic fungi responsible for invasive fungal infections (identification, antifungal drug susceptibility testing), (2) surveillance of all invasive fungal infections, detection of emergence of new species or resistance to antifungal drugs,
(3) development of techniques (typing, identification), (4) advice to public health authorities and professionals involved in management of patients suspected of or diagnosed with invasive fungal infections, (5) teaching to medical mycologists (Medical Mycology Course Institut Pasteur).
The NRCMA collects yeast and filamentous fungi isolates together with clinical and epidemiological data.
All strains are systematically identified using a polyphasic approach (morphological features, mass spectrometry analysis and DNA sequencing).
IP-FungiBank allows performing pairwise sequence alignments against yeast and mold databases. These databases, restricted to medical fungal species, are regularly curated according to nomenclature updates and provide polygenic sequences used for the identification of specific fungal
groups (barcode ITS sequences when relevant, elongation factor for Fusarium spp.; β-tubulin for Aspergillus spp; IGS1 for Trichosporon spp, etc..).
Institut Pasteur FungiBank is not a collection and therefore does not sell isolates.
